Playground Project Completion: Creating a Safe and Joyful Space for Children

The Nepal Education and Cultural Center (NECC) is proud to announce the successful completion of the NECC Playground Project, a special initiative of the Nepali Pathshala of Maryland. This project was envisioned as a safe, engaging, and inclusive space where children can learn, grow, and play together – supporting both their physical development and social well-being. It also reflects NECC’s long-standing mission to enrich the lives of our community members through wellness, culture, and togetherness.

This project came to life thanks to the generosity and unwavering support of our donors: Dr. Sraddha and Ashim Lamichhane, Samjhana and Dipesh Mudbhari, the students, parents, and teachers of the Nepali Pathshala of Maryland (2024–2025), and members of the First Lego League Team Kathmandu Koders (Riwaz Swar, Aarohan Karki, Vani Aryal, Neel Aryal, Niket Shrestha, Sanisha Adhikari, and Pravat Pandey).

The Pathshala students demonstrated remarkable dedication by organizing fundraising events such as bake sales, contributing their Dashain Dakshina through Deusi Bhailo, and even donating their birthday gift money to support the cause. Their enthusiasm—along with the steadfast encouragement of parents and teachers—embodies the true spirit of giving and unity within our community.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed, for their commitment not only uplifts this project but also strengthens the foundation for our children and our community.

We also thank the Playground Execution Team Biwek Karki, Padam Swar, Bir Sunwar, Ramesh Benz, Mohan Karki, Pramod KC and Prajwal Regmi, whose dedication and leadership brought this vision to life.

The new playground, located behind the SiloHut, has been carefully designed to blend with NECC’s cultural campus while prioritizing safety. Its location keeps it away from traffic and historic structures, ensuring a secure and peaceful setting for play.

Highlights of the playground include:

  • A multi-activity play structure with slides, a fireman’s pole, a ship’s wheel, a figure climber, a transfer station, and a D-ring challenge ladder.
  • A 4-bay swing set accommodating toddlers and older children.
  • A spinner for dynamic group play.
  • A parallel bar set to promote strength and coordination.

All equipment is installed on safety-compliant surfaces meeting Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines and Montgomery County regulations, ensuring accessibility and long-term safety.

With this new addition, NECC now offers a vibrant space where children can thrive, families can connect, and the community can come together. The Playground Project is more than a structure—it is a symbol of what we can achieve when we work hand in hand for future generations. We cannot wait to see the laughter, energy, and joy this playground will bring to our children for many years to come.
