A Sacred Space for Both Hindu and Buddhist Traditions

Pashupati Buddha Mandir is a spiritual sanctuary inspired by Nepal’s centuries-old tradition of harmony between Hinduism and Buddhism. Located in Germantown, Maryland, the temple serves as a peaceful center for devotion, reflection, and cultural celebration—welcoming all who seek spiritual connection.

📜 History and Purpose

The temple was created to reflect Nepal’s unique spiritual identity, where many families and communities revere both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. In keeping with this heritage, the temple includes sacred representations of Lord Shiva (Pashupatinath) and Lord Buddha, symbolizing unity and respect across faiths.

Currently, these statues are temporarily placed in designated shrine areas. Full installation and permanent construction will proceed once the final permitting and site approvals are received from county authorities.

🔗 Honoring Shared Spiritual Foundations

In Nepal, it is common to find Hindu and Buddhist symbols within the same temple complex. Many holy sites—like Muktinath, Swayambhunath, and Lumbini—are venerated by both communities. Pashupati Buddha Mandir continues this tradition through:

  • Hindu Worship Services: Daily puja, Rudri path, and monthly Satyanarayan katha

  • Buddhist Practices: Observances such as Buddha Jayanti, lighting deep, and meditation space

  • Interfaith Celebrations: Cultural events and festivals that emphasize dharma, compassion, and community

This inclusive approach reflects Nepal’s deeply intertwined faith traditions and welcomes all who feel connected to either or both.
