July 2025

The Nepal Education and Cultural Center (NECC) is pleased to announce that it has received a $10,000 Marilyn Hatza Memorial SHINE Grant from Maryland Humanities for general operating support.

This SHINE grant supported rental costs for classrooms and event spaces used to operate Nepali Pathshala of Maryland, NECC’s language and cultural education program. Access to these spaces allowed NECC to continue Nepali language instruction, cultural and humanities programming, youth engagement activities, and community-building events throughout the grant period.

By covering facility rental expenses, this funding helped ensure uninterrupted, in-person programming while keeping participation affordable and accessible for families—particularly those from immigrant,  BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), and underserved communities in Maryland. During the grant period (Jan 1–Dec 31, 2025), NECC served approx. 5,000 individuals in different programs (education, culture, religious, welfare). NECC’s Nepali Pathshala of Maryland served approx. 815 individuals, including students enrolled in Nepali Pathshala.

NECC is grateful for the continued support of Maryland Humanities and the State of Maryland through the Marilyn Hatza Memorial SHINE Grant, which strengthens nonprofit organizations and expands access to humanities-based education across the state.
