Urgent Humanitarian Appeal: Support Landslide & Flash Flood Victims in Nepal

On Wednesday morning, 26 August 2026, a catastrophic debris flow and massive flash flood tore through Nepal’s northern border region after a large portion of a glacier broke off a mountain in Langtang National Park and plunged into the river below. The resulting deluge surged nearly 100 km downstream along the Lende Khola and Trishuli Khola river corridors, sweeping through dozens of populated settlements.

The human and economic toll of this disaster is staggering:

  • Severe Human Toll: At least 469 lives have been confirmed lost, with frantic search-and-rescue operations underway for more than 1,300 people who remain missing.

  • Catastrophic Infrastructure Loss: Over 200 billion rupees ($1.3 billion) in physical infrastructure damage has occurred, including the burial and destruction of homes, bridges, and the vital international highway and border infrastructure connecting Nepal and China.

  • Mounting Economic Impact: Total economic losses and long-term reconstruction costs are projected between $5 billion and $10 billion.

Thousands of displaced families are stranded in cut-off river valleys without shelter, clean drinking water, food rations, or essential medical care.
